Burial fund

Djanazah Noodfonds (DNF)

Serves all of the Netherlands

National emergency fund set up on the initiative of the Islamic funeral trade association BIUN that, after screening, pays for the Islamic funeral of Muslims whose families demonstrably cannot afford it, working only with BIUN-certified funeral directors.

What to ask when you call

  • Who does the washing (ghusl), and are there women for a woman who has died?
  • Where and when will the janazah prayer be, and which cemetery do you use?
  • What will it cost, and is there help for a family that cannot pay?

Details change. Call to confirm before you rely on this listing. A listing is not an endorsement, and it is never affected by payment or by using any service from us or anyone we work with.

Someone just died?

  1. Call a Muslim funeral company first, or the funeral fund or insurance if the person had one: it sends its own. If the death was at home and unexpected, call 112 before anyone else.
  2. Ask them: who does the ghusl, what time the janazah prayer will be, which funeral director they work with, and whether there is a plot in a Muslim cemetery or section.
  3. Then take it one step at a time. What to do when a Muslim dies in the Netherlands.
