The details

For the Arabic messages you can type the details in Arabic or English; they are inserted as you type them.

Announcing a death

The first message, to family and close friends.

The janazah time and place

Once the masjid and funeral home have set a time.

Asking for duʿāʾ

For wider circles, community groups and family abroad.

Telling a workplace or school

To a manager, a teacher or an office.

Instead of flowers

Asking for charity in their name and duʿāʾ instead.

Announcing a death is Sunnah. The Prophet ﷺ told the people of al-Najāshī’s death on the day he died, so they could pray for him. Ṣaḥīḥ al-Bukhārī 1245

Why so fast. The burial is hurried, so tell people the janazah time as soon as it is set. Ṣaḥīḥ al-Bukhārī 1315

Charity in their name. A man asked if he could give charity for his mother, who died suddenly; the Prophet ﷺ said yes. Ṣaḥīḥ al-Bukhārī 2760

What to say back. If you are on the receiving end, see duʿāʾs for the grieving.
