What to ask when you call

  • Who does the washing (ghusl), and are there women for a woman who has died?
  • Where and when will the janazah prayer be, and which cemetery do you use?
  • What will it cost, and is there help for a family that cannot pay?

Details change. Call to confirm before you rely on this listing. A listing is not an endorsement, and it is never affected by payment or by using any service from us or anyone we work with.

Someone just died?

  1. Call the masjid’s funeral committee first. If the death was at home and unexpected, call 911 before anyone else.
  2. Ask them: who does the ghusl, what time the janazah prayer will be, which funeral home they work with, and whether there is a plot in a Muslim cemetery.
  3. Then take it one step at a time. What to do when a Muslim dies in Pennsylvania.
